Dublin Merrion Square's Description
Beautiful little park (Archbishop Ryan Park) with very interesting variety of sculptures and other works of art hidden in amongst to foilage. This is where you’ll see a bust of South American independence leader Bernardo O’Higgins the illegitimate son of Ambrosio O’Higgins, Marquis of Osorno, a Spanish officer from County Sligo in Ireland, who became governor of Chile and later viceroy of Peru. Bernardo was the third Supreme Director of Chile (1817–23), and the first holder of this title to head a fully independent Chilean state. There’s also a bust of Micheal Collins an Irish revolutionary leader, Minister for Finance in the Irish Republic, Director of Intelligence for the IRA, and member of the Irish delegation during the Anglo-Irish Treaty negotiations, both as Chairman of the Provisional Government and Commander-in-Chief of the National Army. There’s also a section dedicated to Oscar Wilde, playwright, novelist, poet, and short story writer. Known for his barbed wit, he was one of the most successful playwrights of late Victorian London, and one of the greatest celebrities of his day. But my favourite is the Jester’s Chair erected in memory of Dermot Morgan, an Irish schoolteacher-turned-comedian and actor, who achieved international renown as Father Ted Crilly in the Channel 4 sitcom Father Ted.

Ireland / Whatever you do don't just...
Whatever you do don't just stand and admire that big bronze chair. Sit in it. Its exceptionally comfortable and it leaves your legs dangling in a very pleasant way that you probably haven't experienced since you were a kid. More
