Absolutely loved Carcassone...

Absolutely loved Carcassone. Picture perfect. There's two really nice hotels within the castle ground itself. The day before we were there it snowed. Very romantic. We flew Ryanair from Stansted. You can now fly from Dublin. The guy who did the Ryanair bus transfer was a wee Frenchman dressed top-to-toe in leathers sporting a mad greased up duck's tail hairstyle who played an obviously much-loved Rock-a-Billy collection on a tapedeck over and over. Within walking distance, from the Castle there's an amazing water-reservoir nature reserve thing. Very beautiful and good for swimming during the summer. You are surrounded by vineyards and wildlife as evidenced by the many hunters out shooting with dogs. All in all, its a great getaway destination.
